Randyll Tarly Can Be Convinced

First off, I just found your podcast and I love it!! This week, you talked about Jaime Lanister’s first real time at diplomacy, trying to convince Randyll Tarly to join Cersei’s side, and that this kind of goes against Randyll’s sense of honor. However, I don’t think you are giving Jaime enough credit here. Randyll has a very strict, but rather warped, sense of honor. He would normally never throw his hat in with the Lanister twins. However, the one card that Jaime can play that would strongly appeal to Randyll is the need to crush any foreign invaders, particularly a group of “filthy savages” like the Dothraki. I don’t think Jaime or Cersei give a crap that the opposition are foreign, and would happily take the Dothraki if given the chance, but they recognise that they can play on the fears of others, especially Tarly, to their advantage.
