Apols,

A few final thoughts (again, if you’ve heard before, please forgive me). Having rewatched a few more of the early episodes I’m convinced there are two timelines with Ford’s character – the hair is the clue.

One is during the time of boom when Westworld was appealing, had customers and was on the up. This is when William and Logan arrive on the futuristic white train and enter the reception area through a modern area with escalators. After getting changed, if you watch in the background when William gets on the train it’s actually a lift. William gets on at one level and Logan on another level, they then move in a sideways direction as the train enters the park.

During this timeline it’s a well loved theme park with other customers enjoying their experience. Behind the scenes there is growth, people are planning new narratives, there’s investment, there are workers getting things done manually and there’s a busy-ness about the place. Life is good.

However, in episode one a near identical reception area exists when they go to look for the problem robot on level B83 and they find Ford and Old Bill. This time it’s a redundant, derelict, dark, unlooked after, flooded area. Westworld has failed in this phase. There are very few to zero people working on hosts. It’s all automated (the white dips) and a lot of the scenes just feature Ford and Bernard alone talking. It’s lonely and a relic. Ford has either gone barking mad, or is himself now a host. The place has gone to the dogs and it’s understandable: robots don’t need to look after themselves hence the cooling system not being prepared.

In short we are not only seeing William/Logan/Man in Black in two timelines but we are also seeing the behind the scenes with Ford and Bernard in two distinct stages: boom and then bust.

I believe the park narrative we are seeing with Maeve playing out in the park shows the beginning of the decline.

Quite why authorities have not moved in to close the park down, I’ve no idea.

I’ll apologise in advance for this rambling theory. I’m sure it’s not the first and it won’t be the last you’ve received.
