Rise Darth Daenerys

Hi guys,

I just finished the latest episode and dived straight into your podcast.

I personally felt this was one of my favorite ever episodes although I may need to rewatch to confirm.

A few points….

Did you feel that Daenerys descent into Mad Queen was a bit like Anakin’s fall to Darth Vader in episode 3? Like that movie, this did feel somewhat rushed but the seeds have been planted for quite some time. She has said on numerous occasions she will win with fire and blood if necessary and has shown repeatedly she is more than willing to burn people.

I feel this episode has led us to what I have felt for a long long time is the ending of GOT with Sansa sitting on the throne. Look how the writers have juxtaposed Sansa’s sensibleness (is that even a word??) and strategic thinking against Dany’s impulsiveness and Jon’s naivety. The show has steadily over the seasons shown us Sansa’s education through Cersei and Littlefinger on the nuances of politics.

Following this episode how can Dany be viewed as a good ruler? She torched an entire city after they had surrendered. The Lannister forces had laid down arms, the Golden company was burned, the Scorpions were destroyed. This was not at all like the situation last week that led to Missandes death. Daenerys could easily have soldiers sent to the Keep to arrest Cersei. She has that choice when perched on her Dragon surveying the scene and you can visibly see on her face that to win is not enough, she is not satisfied with merely winning. She may have even made a decision there and then that Kings Landing was no longer going to be the Capital and decided to raze it to the ground people and all.

I don’t think there is anyway Daenerys can survive next week from a storytelling point of view. The episode spent so long showing is the carnage from Arya’s pov. Ayra stuck the Hound on her list for killing the butcher’s boy, how do you think she is going to react to the mother and daughter being ashed?? There was a reason the show focused on that particular mother and child, they were behind Ayra and the Hound outside the gates, and ran into each other a couple of times inside the city.

So Ayra to kill Dany, this will also fulfill another vision, the one where Daenerys is in the throne room and is metaphorically within touching distance of the throne but ends up walking through the gate to meet Drogo and her son in the tent.

Another prophecy which kinda came true was the death of Cersei. Daenerys is a younger sister Cersei is in tears before she dies, Daenerys chokes the life from her when the roof caves in. Cersei may not and died from the cave in initially but be trapped with limited air supply. Prophecies in this show do not always happen the way you think!!

Anyway, that’s my thoughts, for now, loved the episode and I’m sure after a rewatch you will too!!
