Hey Guys,

On Pairing Arya and Gendry – Maybe it isn’t that crazy

This was something foreshadowed in the first episode of the first season. King Robert said to Ned Stark – We will join our houses – I have a son, you have a daughter. It just ends up not being the children we assumed.

In defense of the How to Train Your Dragon date in S8 Ep1…

I agree – there are definitely some cringe worthy moments to that scene, but I think it is more than just showing that Jon and Daenerys are blissfully involved. My thoughts were from a couple different perspectives.

First of all – why would they take the dragons out of Winterfell? Because they aren’t eating – they are taking the dragons to hunt for food. That is why Jon stopped at a spot that he used to hunt – not to “ride the dragon” in a romantic place.

There is also a message out there for everyone by putting Jon on a dragon:

Just imagine being a common northerner and seeing the man you choose to be the king of the north, who went and bent the knee, who is now flying a fucking dragon that belongs to the dragon queen. Some may see that as a bit of him taking on a role that isn’t in line with the ideals of north, but it is also a show of strength. The leaders of the houses of the north will have some understanding of the Targaryaes and the importance of dragons to them. It is a clear message that the Queen trusts Jon and is paying off on his faith by putting him on a dragon.

Then you have to look at it from the perspective of those who are well educated. Tyrion is well read – he almost certainly knows that only someone who has Targaryen blood can ride a dragon – especially since he was a reader and had an interest in learning about dragons and fantasized about riding a dragon. Sam probably isn’t ignorant to that face. Jorah Mormont is also a man who is well educated on the history of Westeros, so he also probably knows. The Onion Knight lived on dragon stone and also probably heard a lot about the history of the place – he may also have the knowledge to see that message.

Then put on top of that that this scene was right off of the discussion of trying to marry Jon and Daenerys. We also know that Daenerys and the Lannisters know that Targaryens wed brothers and sisters together. It wouldn’t take that much for them to put together that this is something that can work and may not even be something that freaks out Daenerys since it is something that her brother told her. She is smart and Jon is smart – they know they are stronger together. Then again – that isn’t probably a move that would be popular in the north- but that won’t matter too much as the army of the dead reach King’s Landing. We should also note that anyone with a knowledge of the history of the Targaryens would also know that their kids have a good chance of being a bit crazy.
