Sam Theory

Several people missed what I believe is the most important part of the episode: Samwell is the author of A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones and likely GRR Martin “himself” within the books. I subscribed to this theory for a long time, with no small coincidence that the character’s name is “Sam” as an insider reference to Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings, the author of those novels within the stories themselves. Beyond that, however, you always had to wonder “why is Samwell Tarly such a focal point of this story” well the reason is simple: he is the author himself incarnate.

This theory was arguably confirmed last night (episode 2). The archmaester (Slughorn) says he is writing a book called “The Wars following Robert I” and asks Sam if he liked the title. Sam clearly says “no” with a look and the ArchMaester says “well you come up with a better title”..the scene then seems to cut (I have to rewatch it) but Sam does not give an answer which will like be “A song of Ice and Fire” (Jon and Dany) or “A Game of Thrones” (TV Version)

This episode pretty much solidified this for me, let me know what you think
