Shadow’s Hanging, and Vikings on the Beach

Hi again,

Reporting back for the new adventure 🙂
You were wondering how much book talk to incorporate in the podcast – in my opinion not much. Not that it should be ignored entirely, but I believe that at at this stage at least there isn’t much point in discussing differences. For one, we’re only starting to see how they expanded the story – and we are promised they did, a lot, so departures may turn out to be steps in the right direction in the end. And some of the things you called inconsistencies I definitely see as foreshadowing… (possible spoiler ahead… even if it would be for season 3 anyway… sorry…?
e.g. Shadow’s hanging, and Vikings on the beach – Odin is of course the god of more than gallows)

The book is one of my all-time favorites, but listening about it the whole time would be another podcast entirely. I’d be more interested in getting into how it’s a new story and how it stands on its own – even if I know the core of it by heart. I just wonder, if they keep up this high WTF-factor for some time, will Big D and other people new to this world, be compelled to pick up the book just to get some more explanation. Or will this be too discouraging.

Oh, and a question: is there a reason why you refer to the protagonist always using his full name? Other than that it sounds cool? In my head (and in the book 😉 he was always just “Shadow”, his last name appears only a handful of times, so it’s a bit surprising.

Looking forward to the rest of the road trip across America,
Klementyna
