Hello Gene and Big D!

Kirsti (rhymes with thirsty, if you read this on the pod please don’t include this parenthesis haha) from Columbus, Ohio here.

Bran. BRAN?!?! There are plenty of quotes we could use from this season to support Bran the Three-eyed Raven ascending to the throne as contradictory bullshit. Or is he not the Three-eyed Raven anymore? Right, Game of Thrones gave us so many complex ass storylines only to leave literally all of them with questions. Anyway, in episode 4, Bran said, “I”m not Lord of Winterfell…I don’t really ‘want” anymore.” You”re telling me, two episodes later, we”re supposed to buy the guy who said that happily accepting his nomination to rule Westeros? Did he just play us all? I’m not happy about it, but I do love the precedent it sets. Assuming Bran is replaced in the same pseudo-electoral college way he was established, Daenerys will have played a major role in changing the course of the Seven Kingdoms hopefully for the better.

Based on Twitter reactions, no one is happy that Bran got the Throne, but I think our standards and expectations are far too high to have been satisfied with any outcome. If Daenerys or Jon ascended to the throne, we all would have cried “predictable!” Perhaps, each of the Seven Kingdoms could become independent nations. Would we have been happy then? Probably not. The Double Ds have been getting so much hate this season, but I think that”s because the Internet loves to complain. The season was definitely rushed and we weren’t given time to fully believe certain storylines, but looking at the major plot points, the Double Ds did a far better job finishing this story than the 1 million people who signed that stupid petition could have. My blame lies with GRRM.

I am forever #TeamStark and I think their endings are quite true to their characters. I personally wanted to see Sansa on the Throne, and I think her final storyline does her character justice. Arya is a badass who would never be happy in one place. History books will be written about her explorations, although I like to think she visits her family occasionally. Jon belongs in the North with Ghost. He was never interested in playing the Game of Thrones. The only thing I would have changed about his storyline is I wish he himself made the decision to go to the Wall and wasn’t banished.

Some episode highlights for me:

Sansa telling her uncle to sit down…YES BITCH

Brienne taking the high road and giving Jaime an honorable legacy…A CLASSY QUEEN

Ultimately, I was disappointed not to feel more emotional about the ending of a show that”s had a piece of my heart for so many years. Praying to the old gods and the new that GRRM will live long enough to finish this story and answer the many questions we still have about these characters.

To Gene and Big D, thank you for your superior commentary and analyses. I listened to a portion of many annoying Game of Thrones podcasts before finding this excellent one. Keep up the great work, and as for Game of Thrones, our watch has ended.
