Hi guys,

Firstly, great podcast! I look forward to it everyday. Thanks for that. I don’t have complete theories that I’m laying out here. More like details I want to point out that I have yet to hear about.

Secondly, and the point of this email, I’m surprised no one has pointed out the following detail. I recently watched a YouTube video of all of Ford’s scenes from season 1 and noticed that in episode 1, when Stubbs and Bernard are in cold storage (I forget why they’re down there but that’s besides the point) they find, from a distance, Ford in the interrogation room at the back of the storage sitting with that old decommissioned cowboy having a conversation. Stubbs pulls out his firearm, as if to imply there is a threat, and Bernard places his hand on Stubbs’s and says “stop. Unless you want to decommission the boss”. This blew my mind.

First of all, why would he use the word decommision? Isn’t that only used in reference to hosts? Secondly, if Ford is indeed a host, then the fact that Bernard says that line out in the open tells me that everyone knows he is a host. Thirdly, in season 2 episode 1 Bernard wakes up on the beach and that woman soldier yells at him to put this hands on his head ( or something like that) and she points her gun at him. Then Stubbs comes by and says something like ‘you wanna shoot the boss?’… So, s1 e1 it’s Bernard saying it, s2 e1 it’s Stubbs saying it. What’s the correlation here? It’s definitely intentional I’d say. I can go on theorising but this email would be a lot longer. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks again,
Gabe

I think the “decommission” line was a tongue-in-cheek question, but you do bring up an interesting recollection of Old Bill. He seems to be a host constructed by Ford before Arnold’s breakthrough. That would explain why Ford continues to visit him.
