Small Thought About Shogun World Being More “Dangerous” Than Westworld

Hi guys,

Just a quick thought in reference to Kerri and Big D’s discussion about Shogun World being more “dangerous” than Westworld in the Instacast. Sizemore explained that Shogun World was made for those who think Westworld is “too tame”. I don’t think it has anything to do with the safety of the human guest though, it’s simply the gore/violence level of Shogun vs Westworld. Slicing hosts up with swords is much more intense and hands-on than shooting them with 6-shooters. Violent delights indeed! Plus, in the end it’s all about the entertainment of the guests, and since Delos wants repeat customers I doubt they would allow their guests to get hurt too bad (don’t think it would require a lengthy waiver or anything). Also, the Man in Black gets delighted in the season 1 finale when he realizes the stakes are finally for real. If there was any chance of real danger for human guests in Shogun World it seems like he would have been spending more of his time there instead of Westworld.

The question still remains about how the blades would work on hosts in Shogun yet not cut human guests. I’m guessing it’s just a matter of hosts being programmed to never attack guests with swords. Of course when the hosts go off-script all bets are off! Hopefully they’ll elaborate on future episodes though.

Very minor thing but just wanted to share. Keep up the good work, love your podcasts!

Thanks,
Justin

After watching Episode 6, I think you’re right. We didn’t see arms chopped off, guts pulled out, or heads sliced in half in Westworld!
