The Tear in Ford’s Eye

Early in Contrapasso, as Dolores and Ford are finishing their conversation, she says “are we very old friends?”. As Ford answers, one tear roles from his eye.

Most beautifully acted – and so, Ford has regrets and sadness.

I suspect his sins are grievous and clearly, he is self-aware, as the best villains are.

I tracked it to 23:28, and he also is seen to quickly wipe it away in a shot taken over his shoulder. Very subtle, but isn’t that what we enjoy and call “good TV”?

And, oh hell yes, Ford is a villain! Arrogant, autocratic, cruel – the only reason to take a scalpel to the “inappropriately” dressed host’s face was to traumatize the technician he was reprimanding. Undoubtedly, lies will be revealed, and you know in your heart that Ford betrayed Arnold. And Arnold is hanging around in Dolores’ head orchestrating revenge.

BTW, does Arnold have a last name?

Keep thinking, and we need pictures of you three in tin hat attire! – Heather
