Hey Guys,

My name is Gloria Bos (pronounced like boss). I just discovered your Westworld podcast and love it.

I wanted to touch on the subject of the body swap of Jim Delos as Abernathy.
Like most Westworld rabbit trails, let me take a few to explain why I think it’s a great possiblity.

Micheal Crighton’s original Westworld movie, spelled out the infection in the androids spreading like a virus and infecting other Android’s. The malfunction the causes the android rebellion. Westworld the show used these elements, but also delve deeper to explore themes of identity, humanity, good vs. evil, fantasy vs. reality. One of the major themes of Michael Crighton’s work is how science can negativity impact humans. “You were so busy trying to figure out if you could, that you didn’t ask if you should”.

The movie’s sequel “Futurworld” had a basic plot. The park wants to protect it’s image and investment, so they decide to clone wealthy elite and world leaders. The real people are to be replaced by the cloned android.

Similar to the tv show season 1 using the movie as a starting point of it’s discussion, season 2 could explore the goal of hosts being sent out into the real world. There are bigger reasons to having the park more than “just for fun”. Young William says it’s to understand how people think and how they will react under certain circumstances. But he even sees that there is also something more than just analytics. He spent s1 obsessively looking for the maze. Several hosts told him that the maze wasn’t for him. Clearly old William is not a host. What if the bigger Delos goal is an army of cloned hosts strategically placed in position of power through out the world.

Delos doesn’t need to predict through the analytics what someone in a powerful position will do, if they have replaced them with a cloned host. They would be able to control governments, stock markets, the media… Thus controlling the world. Jim Delos could have been patient zero. Unfortunately the cloned Jim evolved and rebelled. William cannot afford for host Jim Delos to be back in the world, so he’s hidden him as Abernathy. If they wanted to continue with their agenda without First, they need to understand what went wrong with host Jim, so they need Abernathy to further their research. Just a thought.

I would like to see more exploration of William’s relationship to Ford. What’s the reason for the simmering animosity? Did Ford discover William’s plot for cloned host and began to embarrass Arnold’s theory about freeing the host and destroying the park forever? It will be fun to find out…Maybe by season 7?

Thanks for reading,
Gloria Bos

Gotta go back to my question from Episode 2 Deep Dive: Why not just destroy Jim Delos’ consciousness if it’s stored in a host?
