The Strategic Hand of Rehoboam

Folks,

If we look at our own military, I think we can begin to make better sense of Caleb’s military service. The first thing we have to understand is that fundamentally, as cynical as it might sound, a military exists to serve and implement the strategic purposes of those who control the military. Whether it is a show of force over the South China Sea, training resistance fighters along the Syrian border, or a targeted hit to kill a known terrorist; all of a military’s actions are designed to affect policy to achieve the strategic goals of its government. I believe Rehoboam is no different, and I believe it must control a robust force, much like the Army, to implement its strategy around the globe.

As for the show, look at Serac’s discussion with the South American leader. The threat of a violent uprising is enough to get the politician to bend to the strategic aim that Rehoboam needs. Meanwhile, a much more direct and hands on approach is required to take out Liam’s father. Not only did Serac have to smash the man’s head against the fuselage of the airplane, but the fuselage had to fall out of the sky onto the crash site. Who is doing all these behind the scene plane crashes or intel gathering of insurgent forces in the jungles of South America? The answer can only be, Rehoboam’s military.

It would have standard military outfits doing Human Intelligence (HUMINT) gathering around the world to validate and confirm information in areas that might be unplugged from the Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) community. Then, for surgical and more precise outliers, who needed to be eliminated to ensure harmony, you would have special units that would conduct targeted hits on individuals. Whether it is a direct action snatch and grab or lethal ambush, the elite units would be operating around the globe to ensure Rehoboam’s strategic goals are met.

Also, realize that Rehoboam must be seen like a God bringing peace to humanity, so you can only assume that it would have its own little force of Soldiers to do “God’s Work”. One way or another I am sure Caleb was manipulated to join up and this is where we see him or his buddies in multi-cam uniforms in the flashbacks. Then, as he progressed in skills and experience, much like our military, he was likely invited to try out for more elite and interesting units. Once in these elite units, much like our own Special Operations Forces, he would be conducting operations in civilian clothes to maintain a low profile. With this in mind you can see the different outfits Caleb is seen wearing during the genre flashbacks.

As for why I think Caleb would be in some type of Special Unit, our own Special Operations Community does extensive tests and screenings to find exceptional Soldiers that can think on their feet and operate independently. This doesn’t mean they are all muscle bound meatheads. If anything, it means the Special Operations Soldier is going to be what most of the military would consider, “an outlier”. I think Caleb is an exceptional outlier and he was used by Rehoboam for some of the more surgical tasks that needed to be done to ensure the outcomes.

I could go on and on about the similarities I see in Caleb and Special Operations, but I will leave that for another time. If anything, I think we have to realize that in order to do anything in the world, Rehoboam is going to need to have its own military/contractor army. I think Caleb was one of these Soldiers and I think that explains why he accused Liam of sending him overseas. I also think it might show why Caleb was shot in the head (i.e. that is how the Rehoboam Army discharges its Soldiers after they are done with them).

I also think there is so much more to Caleb’s back story that I don’t believe we will get to it all by episode 10, so be on the lookout for more Caleb in Season 4!

Keep up the great work!

PS: not for the website: cut this down as needed, if needed. I wanted to try to get you something by Wednesday, but I could really go down a broader and deeper rabbit hole about Special Forces and how they are used by the government for strategic means rather than individual ideologies. I think we are going to see a lot more about how Caleb was manipulated in the coming weeks. The question will be how culpable he is for the things he has done or if they were truly just manipulations.
