I absolutely loved Taboo ep1! It was very dark and very weird. The X-Files and Tales From The Darkside, “good” kind of weird. The first episode gave you just enough story for you to follow but (IMO) it was all about the tone and mood of the story. Yes, I agree that it is a murder mystery but the plot revolves more around the “Why” than the who. They let you know right off the bat that James Delaney is not a “good guy”. I think the story may let us know that maybe James Delaney is a villain and not a hero. Maybe he is just tying up loose ends before his karma is cashed in. It’s way too easy for the East Indian Trading Co. to be the big bad.
Clearly the the big questions are:
- What happened in Africa?
- What happened when he was under the command of Stuart Strange?
- Who is the boy?
- What is the relationship between he and his sister?
I like the directions that the show is going and i’m all in.
