Have a Theory? Share It Now!

Hi there!

This is Shea from Worcester MA, I left three long winded voicemails for you and I figured I’d sent my rambling and erratic notes that I took during the first two episodes of WW S4E1&2 + E3 preview. I haven’t edited any of this stuff so it’s not very coherent, but perhaps I will write a better email after I’ve had time to digest. This is mostly for you as reference to my voicemails + some stuff I didn’t have time to say over VM. Sorry about the length of my VMs! I’m excited about the show!

Thanks for all you do! Love the podcast (I’m a new listener this season). Have a great 4th of July!

Best,
Shea

Westworld theories

E1:

Dolores/Christina: since OG Dolores was destroyed, my theory is that Christina is a beta version/backup of Dolores that doesn’t have the same breadth of experience OG Dolores has, thus she needs to discover herself but she also has glimmers of her inherent self (as seen when she is writing the video game stories)

Caleb’s daughter is seven, but the seven year anniversary was just happening (Caleb’s coworker mentioned the anniversary)- how did Caleb manage to have a child that’s seven if he was single at the time of the previous season? Considering it takes 9 months to gestate, his daughter couldn’t be more than six, unless Caleb and his whole family are robots. Maybe Maeve created this family for him? But how could Maeve have the technology to do so? So who could’ve made him and his family if not Maeve?

The streetlights- Caleb says something to his daughter about the best way to see at night is by turning the lights down and lighting up the perimeter. Seems like the same situation that led to Christina being taken by surprise by her stalker.

Peter is the guy Christina’s boss refers to at her meeting- he said something like “poor slob loses everything, stalks a girl, etc” – Peter is stalking Christina after losing everything

The painting in Christina’s room is the same. It doesn’t change like others have mentioned.

E2:

Barn & livestock- reinforces my theory that charlotte is trying to reprogram humans in a simulation. Yes, this is a literal barn, but the livestock could refer to the humans in the simulated NYC.

Perhaps the simulation Christina/Dolores lives in, and her “video game stories” are the catalyst to what occurs in these human livestocks lives? (Later in the episode confirms part of this re: “Peter”)

Anastasia calls Caleb Don Giovanni. Don Giovanni is from an opera. Delos meeting that senators wife invited them to is at an opera house where a song is playing on a record, possibly mozart’s Don Giovanni.

From google: Mozart’s outrageous comedy tells the tale of an incorrigible young playboy who blazes a path to his own destruction in a single day. The morale is about the dangers of sinful behavior.

Wiki synopsis: Don Giovanni, a young, arrogant, and sexually promiscuous nobleman, abuses and outrages everyone else in the cast until he encounters something he cannot kill, beat up, dodge, or outwit.

They were led to a 20’s prohibition speakeasy like place which turns into the westworld train. Maeve and Caleb didn’t choose a hat which apparently tracks the guests. They’re in Chicago in the roaring 20s in a place called temperance

The temperance movement advocated for moderation in—and in its most extreme form, complete abstinence from the consumption of—alcohol (although actual Prohibition only banned the manufacture, transportation, and trade of alcohol, rather than its consumption).

Homeless guy talking about the tower- music with no sound. No one can hear it’s music but me… me and the birds. Lots of dead birds in the next scene. (ha ha birds aren’t real- just kidding, but what’s actually up with the dead birds?)

“Suns not setting on you” reference to the British or Roman Empire?

VP of secret service said something about Fitzgerald second acts?

William references a Hemingway quote, but I didn’t have time to research this. Hemingway and Fitzgerald were frienemies irl?

William got three holes in one- obviously a robot.

Caleb asks Maeve about what happened at the lighthouse- maybe he is wondering if he is real or not? Who knows.

The “crossed the shining sea” quote was made by Maeve in S1E2 (I believe)- she says something about the shining sea again in S4E2

Navarro from secret service- taken control of by flies. In season 4 preview, it shows Caleb covered in flies- if Caleb is actually a robot maybe the flies won’t work on him? Hmm

Christina only gets four sick days a year? Wtf? That’s slave labor. Maybe her boss works for charlotte and is monitoring her and restricting her life to ensure she’s compliant?

Hope center Mental hospital long abandoned. Peter Myers wing made when he died long ago. Christina calls Maya & Maya said “your world may have gone insane” is maya hired by Charlotte to watch over and guide Christina similar to Christina’s boss? Kind of a good cop bad cop scenario?

Tower drawings in mental hospital. Same drawing as the homeless man’s sign. Where is this mysterious tower though?

Real William is alive. Charlotte is keeping him alive in cryo possibly to keep him living for hundreds of years? He said why don’t you just kill me and she said something like”you’re as close to a god as we can get” or something, so she clearly needs or wants him alive. Maybe for hundreds of years until her plans come to fruition? Maybe she wants William to witness the fruits of her labor after the plan is complete?

E3 preview:

Caleb picks up the can in the preview a la Teddy (& young William) picking up the can Dolores drops in S1. Not sure what that represents but it certainly means something!

Black goo: we see it being mass produced in Westworld. It also came from Anastasia, the senators wife’s head- maybe the black goo is possibly what the flies regurgitate (like how real flies regurgitate on food to liquefy it) in order to control human minds?
