Why Sansa Would Make The Best Hand

Hi all!

First time emailer and big fan of the podcast. Two things:

1. I think it’s unfair how Sansa is getting a lot of slack for raising the practical questions. Everyone says, houses and loyalties don’t matter, it’s all about the future, which is unreasonable. Houses should matter less, but assuming they survive this, you want to have some sort of plan of how things move forward, even if it is a starting point. Additionally I would like to see the same slack leveled at Dany who despite the impending doom is still very much a stickler on claim to the iron throne.

2. Speaking of the Dany and the iron throne, I want to make a case for Sansa as the best option for the hand of whatever monarch ends up on the throne, Jon or Dany. I know she wants to stay and lead the North but I think she would make a better hand than the Tyrion of the last 2 seasons. I think she has that balance of a Stark kindness and empathy but she can also make the tough decisions and play the game given her mentors (Cersei, Little finger, Tyrion, etc). One could argue that if Jon had had someone like Sansa at his side, someone adept at diplomacy with people driven by pure self-interest, he might not have gotten murdered by the Night’s Watch. All I’m saying is that her polisci degree could be very handy.

I have another case on how she has the biggest growth arc of everyone, but that’s an email for another time.
