On William’s “jetpacking” –

Let’s set aside just general realities of editing and try to figure this out. When William gets the truck it’s daytime. When William loses the truck it’s daytime. We could assume it’s supposed to be the same day, but it seems much more likely that it’s meant to be the next day. It’s about a day and a half drive from New York to the Hoover dam with present day and not in the midst of “survival of the fittest” mode traffic. That could certainly go either way with regard to slowing down (if he runs into conflicts before the one we see) or speeding up (if people are being drawn to cities and out of his way) William’s drive. We also don’t know if the hosts need to eat or defecate in their current state, so he potentially wouldn’t have had to stop except for gas.

So, with all that in mind, most of his trip could have been completed by car by the time he lost it and switched to horseback. No jetpacking required. Just some editing which, as with later seasons of GoT, I do agree is expediting way too much, but is not actually diminishing realism as is the implication of “jetpacking.” I’m still enjoying the show a lot, but it’s effectiveness and cohesion is absolutely diminished, in part because of that expediting of things. I’m going to be pretty rage-y if we don’t get the final season.
