Episode 7 made an interesting point by saying that abundance / lack of suffering makes people forget to show reverence for their gods.

This idea seems to be a differentiator between the old and new gods.

The new gods seem to become more powerful the less suffering there is, the more leisure time, the more resources we have the more we worship the concepts behind the new gods.

In fact the new gods could be thought of as the 1st World gods. Only privileged people could make TV a god 😉

Taken darkly it speaks to a way to make the old gods relevant again…increase the suffering of humanity. A good apocalypse would go a long way to neutering the new gods.

Aside from our American paranoia around communal action (Mr World), why are we rooting for the old gods again?
