Ford’s Penultimate Line
Hey Guys,
Something always bothered me about the Season 1 finale, and with the start of Season 2, I think there’s possibly an explanation we’re getting that most people didn’t consider originally. In Ford’s last speech, he describes his new villain, Wyatt, and the camera follows Delores making her way to the stage. He then says “and a killing, but this time by choice” and shortly thereafter, Delores blows his head off. I think we glossed over that line too quickly. I originally took the easy explanation that this killing was referring to Ford’s death, that Delores had finally achieved consciousness and was beginning her reckoning.
But the timing seems all-too-perfect. How could Ford know that Delores would be shooting him at the end of his speech? It’s too much to be coincidental. I believe that Delores is still acting on her loop here.
So what is the “killing, but this time by choice”? The first one seems to be referring to Delores’ original Wyatt narrative, where she murders all the hosts and then turns the gun on Arnold, killing him. We know this was all narrative, not by choice, and that Arnold programmed her to commit that act. It would follow that the killing by choice would follow the same basic structure, except for the killer’s motivation. Delores killing Ford seems to fit the bill, Wyatt (Delores) killing a founder of the park during a massacre. But like I said earlier, it seems too perfect to be “by choice”.
That is why I think the “killing, by choice” refers to Bernard killing all the hosts that we’ll learn more about later this season. He’s a host, so the code narrative/free will conflict exists in him, and it seems to mirror Delores’ original Wyatt massacre well (hosts being slaughtered).
Still a theory in progress, but let me know what you guys think.
Keep up the great work,
Zac D (not that Zac D, a different one)

In Season 1, we regularly saw Ford orchestrate and predict events like clockwork. Whether he has the power of Delos predictive analytics or is just a really smart guy, Robert Ford seems capable of setting enough wheels in motion to guarantee his own death at the hands of a host.
