Bernard’s Past Life?

Hey guys,

Long time listener, first time emailer. Love the podcast; it makes watching the show even that much more fun and interesting.

So, this week we learned what many of us suspected: Bernard is a host.

My theory is about whether he was always a host. Assuming Dr. Ford will be replacing’ Teresa with a host version of herself that he can control, I believe it’s possible that Bernard was also a human working under Dr. Ford who had grown weary.

I think the one-on-one conversations between Bernard and Dolores did happen in the past. And at that time Bernard was a human employee at Westworld. Guiding Dolores towards full consciousness, however, was a threat to Dr. Ford’s power. So, like with Teresa, Bernard was replaced with a host version of himself who could continue to unsuspectingly work at Westworld under Dr. Ford’s control.

The most tragic moment of last week’s reveal was how Bernard reacted to learning he was a host. I know it’s a point of contention, but I do wonder if Dr. Ford transfers the human’s memories and personality (minus the part about being killed by Ford) into the replacement host. Hosts only become dangerous when they realize they are not real, so in this case, memories from his past life would keep Bernard docile.
