Some quick thoughts/tinfoil on Caleb.
The reason that Delores picked him is that while he is human, he, unlike Ford declared in season 1 sweepingly, could actually change. My guess is that the flashbacks are from his original core-drive, but now modified memories. The reason that Liam was terrified of Caleb is that he was seeing what Caleb actually did in the past – I’m guessing some William level of evil and carnage but in the real world. However, through this genetic modification program revealed this episode, he was being reformed and his core drives changed into the person he is currently. We never saw him interact with anyone other than his mother – who can’t recognize him… Maybe because that’s not actually her son! The reason that Serac needs the Westworld data is that he needs their method of distilling a person down to their core-drives so that he can better change the outliers to fit within the system, including his brother.
