Bernard’s Son?

Hello again,

Still loving your show especially the Telegraph episode. I know it’s a little late for this week’s Telegraph but I have a quick question. In an earlier episode, a black family comes across Dolores painting out in the country.

We all assume that Bernard’s son died, but what Bernard actually says is that you wouldn’t understand where he is. Could the son be in the real world? If so, was the little boy Bernard’s son or perhaps Bernard when he was a boy?

I like to think that it was Bernard visiting the park as a little boy and becoming so enamored with the park and it’s technology that he studied hard and got a job there as an adult. He may have remembered his interaction with Dolores as a child (You’re one of them aren’t you? You’re not real!) and may be the reason he treats Dolores differently. Could this have been a glimpse of Bernard’s origin?

That scene always felt kinda random, this show seems to have hidden meaning in every scene but we never re-visited that family again. Just curious on what you think. Thank you for your time.

Thanks,

Jonathan Burke

  1. Gael Stirler says:

Jonathan, Bernard is a host and was never a little boy. Arnold was Human but he was a little boy long before the park opened. The child Charlie, Bernard’s son, died in Bernard’s cornerstone memory. That was a memory programmed in Bernard by Ford to make him more humanlike. It isn’t necessarily Arnold’s memory. Arnold does/did have a son named Charlie but he might be alive now for all we know. We haven’t ever seen The Original Arnold discuss his son’s death.
