This theory is based on the William is the Man-in-Black theory. Here is what we know:

1. Logan and William are from a company that may invest in Westworld (WW) and that WW needs a cash infusion.

2. We know that William is engaged to Logan’s sister. We also know that Logan is William’s superior and that William will never be the head of the company as long as Logan is around.

3. William falls in love with Delores and it makes him question his commitment to his fiancé.

4. Jump forward to the Man-in-black who is in charge of a company, married to a woman for 30 years, and did something that was so important to WW that he is a special guest who gets whatever he wants.

5. For William to take over the company Logan must be moved aside somehow. I believe that Delores kills Logan to protect William or William kills Logan to protect Delores. I lean toward the Delores side because the Man-in-black tells the story of killing Mauve and her child to see if he would feel anything and that argues against William having the nerve to kill Logan.

6. So Delores kills Logan and William agrees to cover it up and make it look like an accident. He goes back and marries his fiancé and successfully argues for the company to invest in WW thereby saving the park. With Logan out of the way, he moves up until he controls the company. The dark secret of how his brother in law died drives him to do good works to cover up the darkness he feels inside. He keeps going back to the park to try to alleviate his guilt. He wants to believe he is a good person but is weighed down by what he did.

7. As a side note, the Man-in-black’s wife kills herself because living with a man who tries to hide his darkness and who feels that in the real world he is just playing out a loop gets to be too much for her. He has no real affection for her, he is just following the script.
