Episode 3 Broke My Heart

Have a Theory? Share It Now!

As I watched, I was getting more and more excited that the William=MIB theory was slowly being confirmed:

  • Old logo on lab coats in the Dr. Ford Flashback
  • No overlap in William’s scenes with Teddy or MIB (guests, bandits)
  • Clementine doesn’t ever say her line, not much of a rind on you in William’s scenes
  • We never see Maeve in William’s scenes

Then, the last scene happened and threw my whole world into disarray. I can’t explain it except to say that perhaps it is not consecutive to the previous scene where Dolores rides away.

In Dolores’ scene, she has memory flashes, but she can’t seem to tell which iteration of this narrative the memories are from and which os the current one. It is possible that when she shows up at camp with Billy and Logan, that this is just a different iteration where she also escapes.

That said, Logan makes mention of 40K/day, which seems to indicate that it’s in the present. *sigh*

And who the hell is Arnold? Theories suggest it could be Bernie, but this is not something I buy into.

  • Parallels with tragic personal loss
  • Curiosity about host consciousness
  • Affinity for sweater vests

In fact, I feel like there’s more to the Wyatt backstory that has clues to Arnold.

So, some other fun stuff:

  • If you hold the shift key on discoverwestworld.com, you get a little easter egg
  • Robert Ford is the name of the man who killed Jessie James• Reverie by Debussy is the tune playing in Dr. Ford’s office when he is speaking with Bernie
  • Around this time of year (October 20) is when the Orioni meteor shower reaches it’s peak (meteor showers emanating from a point within Orion)
  • When discussing the Bicameral mind theory, Bernie refers to those who hear voices as lunatics. When tracking the stray and wondering why he was interested in the stars, Ashley suggests moon madness, which is the literal translation. Then the woodcutter bashes in his own head to stop the voices.

Thanks for the Easter eggs, Jezz!

Glad you noticed “Reverie,” too, and I was tickled to see my player piano motif extend to Dr. Ford’s office. You’re absolutely write about lunatics, and if Orion was meant to time with the actual date of Episode 3’s airing, that’s just amazing.

With regards to William’s timeline being in the past, I wouldn’t lose heart. I still see more evidence of multiple timelines than evidence of a linear chronology. I do believe Dolores has collapsed in William’s arms, but who knows what she was running from that time?
