Gods be good to you gentlemen,

Thanks in advance for all the dedication and hard work you put in to creating this great podcast of GOT. Been following since the beginning and always look forward to our three days together via headphones and episode dives. After watching this groundbreaking episode 3, and processing my different reactions come credits, my eventual conclusion I drew from my emotions was one of disappointment*. Game of Thrones has always excelled and lived in juxtaposition between two worlds, the diabolically conniving human world and the ever-mysteriously haunting “other world” residing as the white walkers beyond the wall. Throughout the whole history of the great houses, and even further back into the realm of legends and prophecies, there is continued mention to “beyond the wall” and the terrors that lurk. It is the unspoken truth, that fear of winter. In brief, my mentioned disappoint stems from the fact that after just two short episodes after this magical entity breaches the wall and advances south on mankind, their entire mysterious magic has now been removed from the seven kingdoms. It seems to me that the production staff wish to make Cercei and her forces a greater threat to the living than the night king and his white walkers. I got the reference to how the show vanquished the dark arts: both in the removal of the white walkers and Lady Melisandre parting with her powers. The very fact that they chose to end with the show with that image of her collapsing was symbolic to the magic being removed, as Big D mentioned in the deep dive. But what about the dragons? Those beings are a living image of magic and a link to folklore. Perhaps if they had ended that episode with also the dragons being brought down in battle, then I would be okay knowing that now it is only the human spirit and journey that is left. But by removing the mystery of the un-dead, and yet keeping the magic of the dragons alive, I feel let down by an unbalanced lens focus to guide me through the remaining 3 seasons.

best,
Pierre from the west coast
*I use disappoint in only the smallest sense. GOT producers are incredible, and the layers and layers of symbolism and connections they have established these past 8 years is outstanding.
