Hi guys,

I just started listening to your podcast with season 8 (I only started watching game of thrones in September of last year but now I’m obsessed!) and it’s great! I just thought I’d give you my thoughts on Dany as the mad queen. I think we are starting to definitely see it emerge. She is becoming (rightfully) paranoid and unhinged. As we know it is in her family history which is a large indicator for mental health. I think so far she has been an amazing person, staying true to her beliefs that people should be given good rulers where they have freedom and opportunity. She, of course, has strayed from this in some areas like the crucifixion of the masters in mereen and the burning of the Tarly boys, but in my opinion all of these instances were relatively understandable. Maybe not mereen. Anyway, the whole topic of her madness as I see it cannot be seen in her past. Those are just harsh decisions she’s had to make as a conquerer. But now, with the way she was acting at the feast, the way she dove drogon at the greyjoy fleet when her dragon died, and the way she looked at cersei when the mountain cut off missanei’s head something is changing in her. Sometimes when you have mental illness in your family it takes specific circumstances or a specific environment for it to surface, which is what I think is happening right now. Two of her main trusted advisors and two of her dragons died for her, half of her loyal army was killed fighting someone else’s war, that same person she was fighting for has now become competition for the throne she has worked for her entire life. It seems like everything in her life is falling back to nothing and so I would not be surprised if she becomes unhinged and her family’s history of mental illness surfaces. What I see in way of the progression of the story I have no idea, but I do think that as she loses more of her support and people, she loses more of her sanity with it.

Thanks so much!
Stella

Makes sense. I really do think the show runners are trying to make Dany the hero in the end and need us to doubt her momentarily.

Or she’s just gonna burn it all and become a tyrant.
