Game of Thrones Question

Have a Theory? Share It Now!

Hi!

This is my first time writing in, and I want to say I’ve enjoyed your podcasts each week.

I enjoy spending time on Reddit (and Facebook) after an episode airs. I love seeing the opinions, theories, and reactions. I am always blown away by the small details people catch that I completely miss.

This most recent episode (5), I caught something that gave me pause and when I went to discuss it on social media, everyone seemed to think it didn’t mean anything. But I feel it did.

When Varys was writing the letters about Jon’s true parentage, he knew he was going to be executed. When he heard Grey Worm and Co. coming to get him, he put the letter he was writing into the flames and….here’s where I’m baffled….he removes a couple of rings and put them in a metal bowl on his desk. Now, it’s not the act of removing his jewelry, it’s the fact that when he removes his pinky ring, the camera does a mega-close-up of the ring and he sort of slo-mo removes it. It’s a very deliberate shot. Then the camera pulls back as he removes the other ring.

What does that mean? What does the ring mean?

Thanks and look forward to your thoughts!

First Stay off reddit. It’s like bad crack….

Second they sell those rings online at some jeweler

Third it is largely a symbol of his allegiance to Dany. And by taking it off he’s accepting his fate and his last hopes are now gone. I know you wanted it to be more.
