Game Of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3 Um Actually At End

Hey Guys,

Hey guys. Love the podcast. So I like that GOT has gone back to their roots in the final season… Slow burn pace as opposed to last seasons record speed traveling of characters and events. As for season 8 episode 3… My initial reaction was mixed. I enjoyed a few of the scenes tremendously such as 1) zombie viserion losing his shit in winterfell as Jon stumbles around. 2) the image of the dothraki flames going out one by one. 3) arya stark getting the final killshot for the win. However after initial watch I couldnt help to feel like the battle plans were a little wonky. I mean, everyone on the internet seems to be analyzing this. I wouldnt say it took me out of the show totally, but I was like:”ok, dothraki gone… Now unsullied not retreating or having a clear exit back. It just didn’t make sense”. Its kind of like when I was a kid, after watching star wars thinking, yeah the spaceships look cool, but based on their designs they couldnt maneuver like that. I still enjoy it, but those things bug me. Big D, nice military breakdown. In episode 2 when they were battle planning , I know they mentioned why they wanted to keep forces outside (to slow the dead down or something) but I would have preferred like you suggested proper defenses set up and them still get overrun. A Roman shield line layered 3 or 4 deep would have proved maybe more effective against the hoards or dead as well. Also… Question, maybe I missed it, but where the fuck are the knights of the vale. Did they go home after the battle of the bastards. There were like thousands of cavalry. If they did go back, were they not summoned for the fight. I will say that I feel bad over analyzing things like this because I know we are supposed to suspend our beliefs while watching a show with zombies and dragons in it, but certain things just stand out. Not sure if its inconsistency like one scene showing 50 wights piling on our main characters in a split cut shot to than seeing them battling them in waves of 1 at a time… I know the point was to show chaos in battle, but I recall almost every main character having a screen shot of them about to die to then see them alive still battling. I like that you guys pointed out plot armor because I felt that they kind of just picked off some of the more minor main characters this episode. Jorah RIP. Maybe thats how the story goes… If some nobody red shirt lived through several battles at least give them screen time. But its the story about the survivors, who happen to be nobles and the main characters. We have lost a lot of characters in the show obviously. I think they could have avoided this feeling of plot armor if some of the main characters had fighting units like how in Greek hero stories Jason had his Argonauts… Achilles had his ship of hand selected skilled warriors. Seeing a band of bad ass red shirts making the main characters better would have made me believe their survival through all this a little more believable for me. Dany surviving off of Drogon was a stretch. I will say this, upon initial viewing, the flow of the battle seemed inconsistent. It seemed like once the castle walls were breached, everyone in the courtyard would have been overrun. Jamie, tormund, brienne, pod, Sam, all should have been dead. If they showed fall back positions like the castle towers being defended then seeing them alive at the end would have felt more realistic. I will watch episode 3 again and maybe feel different. But that was my initial reaction… And 1 I’m actually… One of you said the scene where “pod and arya” but you meant Gendry and arya. Simple error. And I apoligize for misspellings or grammatical errors.
