Gentlemen,

First, I just discovered your podcast and enjoyed the listen. So thanks for providing the content.

I enjoyed season 3 of true detective. I feel like this is the best of the show. The acting by the four main characters has been off the charts, Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff and Scoot Mcnary just killed it. I liked the writing on the show. Nick P might be a pompus genius, but he did this show right.

I really enjoyed the finale, I also believe the way it was portrayed deliberately left open endings. Thats what life is, there really are no neatly tied up in a bow endings. Life does not stop and leave us all to live happily ever after in a pink castle, with a princess, a queen and knight. What happened to Amelia? We don’t know and neither does Wayne, it dissipated in one of his memory fogs. Was Roland gay? Or did he just have a fascination with strays and helping them. Tom was a stray, so was Wayne. Roland ultimately considered himself a stray.

Recall one of the opening scenes, when Roland wanted to kill the fox or bobcat or whatever that was. Wayne would not let him. I believe when Wayne is at Julie’s house near the end, there is a slight gleam of recognition. However, wayne will not tell.

I also think the writers were making a commentary on conspiracy and how people who don’t have the information tend to fill in the blanks of life with WAGs that get more and more fanatical as time goes on. When the truth is simple. Julie was not part of a child sex ring. She was a substitute daughter to fill in a hole in mentally disturbed rich ladies life. Will was along for the ride when a tragic accident took his life.

But in the end wasn’t this just about one man’s descent into the fog of Alzheimers? The last shot shows us Wayne wading through the jungle in Vietnam. Is’nt the jungle just Wayne and his memories. Very poetic and all that needed to be shown.

Thanks and keep up the good work!
