The mannequin shown in the trailer with Halores & William (in the tower?) receives a pearl and activates, so maybe its the hive mind of someone controlling NYC?
Also of note, Christinas leather purse at her waist has perforations resembling the sheet music for a player piano. Maybe she simply became music?

The image/concept of humans being controlled by a giant electronic (media) apparatus seems like a bit of a metaphor for modern life, no? Maybe we’re all “Nipper” now (Nipper being the name of the dog in the RCA Victor logo)….
