I Loved Episode 5
I was in shock by your negative reaction to S4E5 of West World. Mostly because I had the opposite reaction to it. I watched the episode twice and both times I loved every minute of it. I found myself shouting This is West World because it felt like a return to form for me.
I think a lot of the problem here has to do with lofty expectations set by the show in the past, and the fact that you guys over analyze things for the podcast all of the time. That makes sense because its how the show is designed. Unfortunately though its not realistic that every episode will have a mind blowing reveal, and that task gets harder and harder the more we know about the hosts and the overarching plot. Not every episode can be a perspective altering layered puzzle. Sometimes there is beauty in the simplicity of it. Just like there is beauty and horror in the lives of every day people, and them existence of the hosts. I found the most horror in Charlotte forcing the humans to dance because the demonstration of absolute control was so simple.
I think the mirroring (though heavy handed) is what really makes the episode fly. Showing us more of the same, and the hypocrisy on the part of the hosts is poetic. I also feel like the show runners wouldnt be so in your face about it if it wasnt
a. Important
b. A red herring
c. Both
The parallels to the original park have been littered throughout the season so I think it has to be leading to something, we are building to the grand finale that will be season 5, so the really juicy less obvious stuff will probably be in the last 3 episodes.
Thanks for your time! I love your show!
