If Westworld Hosts Are Biological

Gents

I am another physician that avidly watches WestWorld and listens to your podcast. A physician commented on the improbability of the hosts being biological since organs can’t survive anoxia (absence of Oxygen) due to no blood flow. Of all the organs the body shunts blood preferentially to the brain of under distress. Our physiology understands that without the brain we are in dire straights. But, as we saw in episode 8 after Maeve slashes the throat of the reticent technician, Felix was able to apply what looked like a laser cautery/tissue knitter. This closed the wound and theoretically allows the other technician to live having learned a lesson on the consequences of crossing Maeve. Additionally Ford, in a meeting with Bernard, mentions that “we have cured all illness, soon we will bring someone back from death”. Should we therefore be surprised that the hosts can be significantly damaged (by 21st Century current medical technology standards) and be redeployed? I theorize that the process of redeploying a “dead” host takes at least 24 hours. Look at the cleaning tanks where they are hosed down, then they are”operated” on and then they are checked for personality degradation and have their memories wiped. The technology to create these types of creatures, the hosts, whether mechanical or biological far outstrips our own technology. WestWorld is likely 50-100 years in the future. Also I suspect that in that reality parts of the challenges we currently face, food, water, healthcare, education, etc have been significantly impacted by technology.

Love the work you all do together in analyzing and discussing the show. I look forward to many more seasons of enjoying the show and your theories
