Hi again,

So first off I fell of my chair when I heard “Girl from England” during the telegraph. I’m really touched by your words guys. Thankfully I am very lucky to have great friends and family around me but I will bend your ear now I’m feeling better.

So following on from that I have a point from Roger’s first question about whether humans should live forever. First, Roger I am very sorry for your loss and wish you the best. Although I admit that I have depression, I am a functioning person most the time and work as an end of life carer. Yeah I know but strangely its rarely the source of sadness but instead the cure. In my experience there is a great difference in perception towards death in young people and the elderly. Very commonly elderly people are not only accepting of death but ready to face it. I’ve never been sure if this is an innate response bred into us or the result of coming towards the end of what I call a path.

To me mortality is a great factor in conscious thought, not only because of the questions it make us ask ourselves but also because it is a base drive to survive and react to danger and threat. Even when an elderly person decides they are ready to die consiously there is no button they can press that stops the bodies drive to survive physically.

If I was trying to achieve consiousness in a species that does not die of its own accord or does not degrade. I would introduce a threat that would threaten it and would cause the need to survive. And that is what Ford does.

To me Dolores reaction to the threat show a lot of the struggle and complexity involved in facing death. Struggling to work out who to trust. Falling back on lessons learned from their life. The anger. To me this shows that Delores is still in the maze. She’s still developing from the path layed out for her by Ford and maybe at the end of it she’ll be ready to face death with a different perspective.

Lots of love to you guys. And if your ever in England I make a really good cup of tea.
