Listened to The Telegraph last night and went to bed thinking about what a listener brought up concerning the lack of government presence in Westworld. Dolores does seem to get away with killing the bad guys so easily. And then she travels around the city with no problems. Curious and bizarre for my taste. Anyway, I read the following in the good ol’ NY Post- NYPD nabs burglar using thermal camera from the sky. So I am supposed to believe that in this ;future world of Rehoboam, it’s easy to engage in gun battles in public and get away no problema? Rog and Ashley briefly discussed the power of multinational corporations in the future and while there is little doubt they will have a say, I think we’re starting to see that power wane a bit with the rise of strongmen around the world. Trump bars Huawea from the US and Google, Intel and Qualcomm cut ties with the company. Facebook and Google are blocked in China. The real power is being concentrated in the state. The state has the military and as Mao said “Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.” Witness the subservience of powerful CEOs in Trump’s presence. And Trump envies the power of a Putin, Xi, MBS or Duterte. The object of power is power- Orwell. Anti-democracy is on the rise. The state is the power of last resort. When the financial world imploded in 2008, the whole system was saved by the government. Same is going on now with this virus. As Cersei said, “Power is power.”
