Looking Back To Look Ahead
Finally got to watch this epic episode tonight then hear the instacast.
So, all of Ford’s communications with the Man in Black urge him to look to his past, his origins, as you said in the instacast. And it seems that a host body appears to reject the human mind (or vice versa, or verse versa, or some combination) as evidenced by Delos’ hideous loop in which he is actually trapped in Hell despite his attempt to avoid it: complete with flames and echoes of Tantalus and Sisyphus –he was spinning “Play With Fire” but who couldn’t hear “Sympathy For the Devil” in the spaces between? Also there seemed to be hints that Delos becoming aware of his hybrid status led to his dissolution. At the very least rapidly accelerated it.
So:
• Maybe being unaware of being a hybrid allows the body/brain partnership to acclimate.
• Maybe the roots of the Man in Black are roots he is unaware of.
• Maybe not knowing you’re an immortal hybrid is the key to remaining one.
• Maybe William’s wife realized what he had become, not just what he’d done.
• Maybe Ford has been beta-testing William for his own eventual refurbishment, and William discovering/surviving his revelation is a key for Ford to proceed with his own rejuvenation.
• Maybe Bernard does have Ford’s essence in a ball in his pocket. Certainly Ford would have directed Bernard to slaughter everyone in the lab down to the drones. (Except for one, curiously. Makes me wonder…guard dog?)
Anyway, looking forward to the deep dive.
