No Heroes In GOT Finale

Have a Theory? Share It Now!

Hello Guys,

It has always been my opinion as a physician that you should not self-diagnosis; unfortunately, I think I do have GOT Depression possibly with psychosis. I know it is not logical to be that serious over a TV show, but as a true nerd I am serious about all the things I love including this world that George RR Martin created and the Double Ds brought to life.

I am still mourning my Dragon Queen, who I realized has always been honest about who she was and what she wanted. I believe that the part of her speech last night directed to the Dorthaki was exactly the request she made to them in season 6 after destroying the Khals. And, I guess I feel like Greyworm (Torgo Nudho in Valyrian) – she was their Queen and she did exactly what she said she would do – she never lied to them, to us. Maybe Jon and Tyrion were blind, maybe we the audience were blind as well. You always need to go into every situation with eyes wide open, and the books and the TV show did show us who Dany was becoming.

Maya Angelou once said and I quote, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them…”. It seems that Ser Jorah, Darioo, Missandi, Greyworm, the Unsullied and the Dorthaki saw her and believed in her. So, did I – but she had no remorse for what she did which is the reason I believe she had to die. If she had remorse, she would have ended her own life. Since, she didn’t it allowed Jon Snow to fulfill the Prince That was Promised Prophecy – I guess the sword that was forged “lightbringer” was actually Drogo who destroyed the Iron Throne.

As far as the “No Heroes” title- I feel that there were no heroes in the finale, and maybe we have gotten it all twisted in our heads because of what we expect heroes to be. It’s all about perspective, I am not sure if we were supposed to feel that Jon was the hero, or Tyrion for suggesting to elect the King in their new House of Lords sessions. Maybe, Sansa was a hero because she freed the North from the seven kingdoms, Sam Tarly because he lived, or Bran because he became King. But, I felt like it was all politics with the plan of being a little different going forward, but still politics. To me this was really emphasized by the small council meeting and King Bran’s announcement that they need a new Masters of Laws and Master of Whispers. To the same mundane wordplay that happens at every meeting.

Which maybe the point of this story. Everything repeats, the cycle continues. The signs of the White Walkers and Children of the Forest make sense now. They are communicating which part of the cycle we are in, and maybe the cycles are the true wheel. We have seen some variations in what happens; the North is free, the Starks have won, King’s are elected. But, has anything changed. When we were having the amusing scene, when Sam suggested the people choose their leaders – we saw them compare people to dogs and horses. Which reminded me that this was the same people that they were willing to starve so that they can force Cersei out; representing the same people that Dany burned alive….I wonder what Greyworm was thinking – maybe he was like me, and thinking you are all so rich, so mighty, and so much of the problem. Which leads me to believe that this is why Daenerys was truly dangerous to Westeros, she made it her mission to break the wheel, and end the cycles. But, if I ascribe to this theory, then Jon was equally dangerous because he believed in every person irregardless of titles, trueborn status, or which side of the wall they are from- he would give too much hope to the everyday man, woman, and child. So, we pick Bran who is Westeros memory, and possibly the one who played the game best. Because, he was not playing their game – he was playing the game to keep Westeros on its cyclic course, to keep the wheel turning, to keep everything moving the same. Thus, the small council scene. He is the great mastermind, does that make him fortunate? Evil? A Genius? Or all of the above…

Does that mean that the Night King was right in his pursuit to make an endless night, and destroy the Three-eyed Raven? Are we more fortunate by having things be the way they have always been…

Too many questions are still resting heavy in my mind… But, now I will listen to your Podcasts this week and let it be what it is…

Thanks for reading,
Diane
