I think this blow to Daenerys right before she meets with Jon is perfect timing – for Jon and the storyline in general.
Before this she didn’t need any help; she clearly had the upper hand and Jon had little bargaining power. Now she may be more amenable to working with Jon as opposed to wanting him to bend the knee first thing.
