Religious Metaphor in Ford and Arnold

As a person who grew up staunchly Catholic and now identifies as a Buddhist I have found a lot of interest in the metaphors of religion in the show.

It occurs to me that Ford is the Abrahamic God (Christian Judaism Muslim) – he is the all knowing the all seeing the eye in the sky he can take the pain away. Ford believes that pain keeps the hose in there loops it ties them to it and that they are actually more free than humans in their slavery to Ford because he can take their pain away and they can live blissfully, i.e. never eat of the tree of knowledge.

Arnold on the other hand is the eastern “God” in the sense that he is no God at all he wants the hosts to become enlightened, to move past their pain to understand that yes life is suffering but it is in that suffering that we find freedom not the anchor that ties us to the circle.
