Hello Shat on TV crew:

Here’s my best attempt to summarize my notes briefly into three groupings:

* Plot/Story Reveal
* Narrative
* Theme
Please don’t ding me on the groupings. There’s too much to unravel, which is glorious in an insane way.

Plot/Story Reveal

What happens to Bernard after he stomps on the last technician in Sector 12? We, as the audience, don’t see what happens next. So additional questions:

Why does Bernard leave the last drone host and not have him snap his own neck? What does Bernard do next?
Why wouldn’t Bernard go into the sealed room with John Delos’ contained room? How did the assistant end up in that contained room to be killed by John Delos?

My best guess at this point is that Bernard would enter that room and whatever he did next, it led to that assistant’s death and John Delos’ evolving into a conscious but psychotic self….seeing all the way to the bottom.

So then a related question: Who is the second ball of consciousness that Ford has Bernard print and take out of Sector 12? I like the idea of it being William, but I have a hard time not thinking that it’s Bernard….or some version of whomever he really is. Maybe Arnold? Or whomever Ford really was in what we saw of season one. Looking at a few Ford scenes again, it’s kinda hard not to see him as some form of host.

In any case, as Big D carefully mentioned in trying to avoid spoilers recently, as the audience we’ve seen a preview of Charlotte in a room full of Bernards that takes place sometime in the near future….episode-wise at least.

Much like not knowing how Bernard leaves Sector 12 mentioned above, we do not know how Bernard (and Charlotte) leave Sector 14. It probably involves something surrounding Charlotte discovering the other Bernard hosts and freaking out.

When we see Bernard on the beach with Strand and the others in the future timeline, he’s in a fresh body. One of those fresh bodies that Charlotte saw.

Potentially a hybrid body that is suffering much like we watch John Delos suffering, as he tries to grapple with accepting the current world and reality. Remember that it is suffering that leads to consciousness!

Narrative

The MiB’s story that we are currently following surrounds Ford’s game, The Door.

When MiB and Lawrence come across the railroad tracks being built to the west instead of to the north, MiB realizes that there are other players in this game. Why? Who are they?

Human contenders: MiB/William, Grace/Emily, Elsie, Charlotte, Stubbs? Host contenders: Bernard, Maeve, Delores/Wyatt, Akecheta/Ghost Nation? Hybrid contenders: John Delos, Bernarnold, William, other???

I honestly don’t know, but it’s a key question to ask. We probably won’t know after next week’s sojourn with the samurais, so I digress…..

Theme

Life versus Death and to some extent, God versus the Devil. Playing God!

And how this relates to consciousness.

There’s a wonderful dichotomy in on one hand, Angela telling William upon his arrival at Westworld for the first time, If you’re not sure, does it matter? William ends up repeating this same statement to John Delos when JD asks if he’s in California.

On the other hand, Akecheta whispers to Stubbs in the last episode, You live as long as the last person who remembers you.

This happens while Grace/Emily runs away, but that’s a story for another day (the escape must be scripted.)

MiB tells JD, Nobody is coming for you and he boasts to Major Craddock that he is death …..looking over him right now. He offers Craddock death but not Delos.

Summary

I’ve offered you more questions than answers, because I went down a rabbit hole of watching a series of Ford scenes from Season one and know both more and less at the same time! You are the professionals, so I’ll leave it to you.

I’ll end my own narrative with the three interactions/quotes that struck me the most:

1. Abernathy to Ford in S1E1, You don’t know anymore do you? You’re in a prison of your own sins. This sounds a lot like where Delos was left in that room for a long time, decades perhaps? Is there another Ford in a similar prison?

2. Ford to Bernard after the above takes place, You can’t be God without being acquainted with the devil. Oh my!

3. S1E5, titled Contrapasso, MiB and Teddy, whose Lawrence transfusion appears to be running out, are joined by Ford in the tavern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qD_La2F6bk

Ford, if you’re looking for the moral of the story…..quite simply ask.

MiB, I’d need a shovel man I’d be asking died 35 years ago. Almost took this place with him almost but not quite. Thanks to me. Well maybe he left something behind…… I wonder what I would find…… if I would open you up.

at 03:47

MiB, Even a death’s door, you’re still loyal pet………. Is that why you came here Robert? Try to talk me out of it?

Ford, On the contrary…. Far be it from me to get in the way of a voyage of self-discovery……. …..Mr. flood….. we must look back and smile at perils past, mustn’t we? Holy shit is William trapped in Teddy oh fuck my brain…

Ford snaps and [Music] starts at 04:42

Teddy, taking charge after cocking revolver, we should get back on the road…. Time’s a-wastin. How is Ford not a host with this level of control?!?! He may be the AI that Big D has mentioned who is really behind everything.

So, I’m going to leave it to you cats and go listen to your Deep Dive. Then release myself from this prison that Joy and Nolan have created!

Thanks for creating a place where these thoughts could go.

Cheers,
Brian
