Hey guys,

I came to your podcast at the Season 7 Thronies (I was LOLing on my flight that day), and wanted to say thank you. You guys did an amazingly thorough and insightful job breaking down the show between the Instacast, Deep Dive, and Small Council, and made my commute to work so much better! When discussing this season with friends and colleagues, I was surprised how quick everyone was to judge – I’ve been holding out, for the most part, so all the pieces can potentially fall into place. Even now as our watch has ended, I still don’t know how I feel about how it ended, and I’m ok with it. Masterpieces with years of context don’t settle overnight. An unintended downfall of having such a long time between Season 7 and Season 8 was the anticipation and often delusional expectations we acquired as viewers. I find it wild that people are upset that the showrunners didn’t appease their theories to come true – that’s not what they’re here for. Despite what we wanted as viewers, we can’t deny it was visually stunning. The HBO’s ‘Game Revealed’ specials made this very clear.

One thing I found interesting about this season was actually the intro credits. Next to each actor’s name is their house – and Kit Harrington’s icon has remained a wolf the entire time. Since lineage of the house icon for the actors in this show is patriarchial, so I was waiting every week for this to change, and it didn’t. This showed me that Jon was never going to ‘be’ a Targaryen, as he showed last night that duty becomes before love, as he acted throughout the entire series, like the father he always thought was his, Ned Stark.

PS. If you need a GoT-esque fix to ease your sorrows while grieving the end of this show, tune into the Last Kingdom on Netflix. I found it a few months ago while waiting for Season 8, and it checked a lot of boxes: a plot based on a fight between the old gods and the new, Tormund’s long lost Viking relatives, and a main character much like Jon Snow, but actually knows things.

Can’t wait to start listening to your Westworld podcast – love that show.

Thanks!
