Hey Hey Shaterettes,

If you CAN tell, does it matter?

This is inspired by a discussion I am having on reddit, and it’s not fully developed just yet. It all started when I commented that Charlores showed no humanity towards her adopted family because she wasn’t human, therefore humanity was not relevant to her. I went on to explain how, as humans, we know that every story has a bad guy, and yet we still react to their inhumane behaviours, why? Because that is what a good story can do. To us. Just like a good piece of music can do. we all know the theme to Jaws, we all know those two carefully selected notes can put the willies up us, and we have a basic understanding of why. And yet it still holds the power to do so. And we celebrate this. like I said it isn’t fully formed but it links nicely to other thoughts which I am trying to remember, in relation to the original question, asked of William, by Angela. “If you can’t tell…” Something about whether it was a morality question or something more revealing than that. An AI almost questioning the logic of the Turing test, I think was my conclusion. Who is being tested in the Turing Test? Then I’m reminded of other thoughts inspired by the themes of the show, such as the mirrors and reflections. I’ve said for some time that our reflection is an analogue simulation that fools us every day. We look in the mirror and if we are satisfied with our reflection, we leave home content with ourselves. We’ve seen people turn to horoscopes for a reflection of themselves. Maybe this is just a natural response to the lack of evidence of our ‘supposedly’ true reflection. God. I firmly believe that the show points to humanities desperation to discover their higher power, and their inability to see that it was within them all along. I’m pretty sure none of tat makes much sense, but maybe you smart people can come up with something.
Cheers
