Transfer Consciousness, Or Merely Copy?

One thing that’s driving me crazy in the fan discussion that’s followed Sunday’s incredible episode is the confusing of “transferring” one’s Consciousness to a Host vs “Copying” one’s Consciousness to a host.

While to the outside world Angela’s famous question may hold “If you can’t tell the difference, does it really matter?”, to the person themselves, it matters a good deal!

If you die, but a clone human/host hybrid of you goes on, you’re still dead! That’s not life extension. That’s not Immortality. If, on the other hand, up could actually wake up in a host’s body, much the way we are familiar with from comedies where people “trade places”, then that would actually be life extension and possible Immortality.

Not only is the fan discussion very confused on this important distinction, the characters on the show seem equally confused. I almost wonder if the show writers are confused by it. Please straighten this out! Thanks.
