Hello. My name is Khawar (pronounced carver) from the UK. I’m loving your podcast, I’ve listened to quite a few other west world podcasts but you guys are my favourite.

My crackpot theory is that Logan is the man in black. The show is trying to deceive us by giving us the black hat and white hats. Normally I think we are used to seeing how someone can become evil and that William is the origin story and that something bad must have happened to him that turned him into man in black. I think it makes more sense for it to be Logan.

These are my reasons. We are watching potentially three timelines. Logan William is the past. Meave is the present and when Bernard is wearing black and talking to Dolares that’s maybe six months into future. Logan states how his company is looking to buy west world. Then we see Man in black with his conversation with Ford mentions how he saved the park from Arnold.

This may be through providing the park money and therefore become a vip with full access. However he may have also meant physically as well. Logan stopped Arnold’s plan and Dolores and I think William died after discovering the maze. I think Logan is after the truth. He suspects Ford is hiding something and that when he finds the center of the maze he will truly find out the real meaning of the park. I believe that Arnold wanted to create the hosts with freedom but Ford killed him so that he could sell out and keep the hosts as his prisoners. Ford wants control.

Also I found it interesting about man in black talking about the real world. The reason why he keeps coming back is that out there people have lost direction. They live a dull meaningless life. Man in black wants to feel alive. He wants something with real stakes and danger. It appears everyone has gotten to comfortable and he wants to remember what it feels to be human. Wouldn’t this be the biggest irony that humans have to visit west world just so they can feel human emotions such as thrill, love, violence.

Thanks for the podcast keep it up –Khawar

I agree with the hosts that I do not like Logan being the Man in Black. That is too direct; black hat is a black hat sort of scenario. However, it is also a possibility.

Logan is presented as a playboy. He is rich and only cares about sex and the pleasures of life. He is looking for a good time in Westworld.

The Man in Black has a purpose. He is looking for the center of the maze, whether that is a real location or an idea. Over time, he has been learning the game and now he is looking to play the final chapter, so to speak.

Depending on what happens to William, we could see a significant transformation in Logan’s purpose in life. That could be the catalyst that pushes him to become the Man in Black.

We know they both are likely rich and powerful in the outside world.

If the timelines are true, we know the Man in Black has been coming here for many years, as Logan stated he has done many times.

We know that the Man in Black has interacted with both Delores and Lawrence/El Lazo in the past, as Logan has.

The biggest fault in this logic is Arnold – the Man in Black states that he stopped Arnold from destroying the park.

If that is financial, then they wouldn’t have to interact; but if that is Logan stopping Arnold from some uprising or whatever, then we would need to see how they came together and it would call into question who Arnold is.
