Watchmen — King Bee’s theory

Hey guys,

Glad to hear you are covering this — it’s a show worthy of your in-depth and sophisticated analysis.

King Bee’s idea that the old guy played by Lou Gossett Jr. is the actual Hooded Justice is a strong one, and works for me image-istically (if that makes sense). The young boy sees the vigilante in the film wearing the hooded cape, and choosing not to permit mob violence, and after the traumatic events of the Tulsa riot and what no doubt followed in his journey to adulthood, he adopts that costume (which also features a noose, a very edgy symbol from the costume in the original comics). Then years later, Angela’s costume has that same powerful hooded cape costume, providing a sense of continuity of image through the decades. (Amazing by the way how much they packed into just ONE episode….)

“Do you think I can lift 200 pounds?” Well, knowing he’s Lou Gossett Jr., I damn well better think so. Kidding aside, the implication, if he did in fact kill Sheriff Judd, is that either A) he’s become malevolent in his old age, or b) Sheriff Judd was a bad actor in some way. It may be 2019, but when we see someone surreptitiously doing a bump in the kitchen during a family dinner party, we still know there’s something fishy (or squiddy, perhaps) going on….

Anyway thanks for your work, and looking forward to exploring this new series with y’all…. Brendan
