Weak Gimmicky Storytelling

Watchmen

Huge problems in what has been a fairly well written show. Show don’t tell, that’s a classic commandment in good story telling. When Angela found out that her Grandfather didn’t even know who Judd was her facial reaction should have been enough. We didn’t need her exposition for the slow kids. That was Michael Bay level…and the attack by the 7K should have happened immediately after that so she didn’t have a chance to say anything else before Manhattan “dies”. Also with Judd’s wife and Judd being involved with Keene it still means that killing Judd was “justified”. More interesting twist would have been if Judd and his wife were not involved at all and Judd kept the KKK shit as a reminder to himself of his family’s dark past and how he must always strive to overcome it by being a good person.

The whole Manhattan falls in love with her was also pretty weak in my opinion. Very Hollywood, unnecessary, it could easily have been she had just met him and asked to him to talk to her grandfather. Like if she had used one of the Dr Manhattan booths after her grandfather was killed in the story some way. Would also give the Manhattan booths a point.

I unfortunately think that unless this last episode is a miracle of some kind I’m going to look back on the Watchmen series as a whole as pretty mediocre with the only takeaway being the horrible knowledge of the Tulsa Race Riots.

Thanks Shatters! Great podcasts! But I think you guys are doing the modern art mistake of explaining to yourselves too much why you like it and justifying and excusing as opposed to just liking it on its own merrit.
