White Church and Black Church

Hey guys,

I can’t stop thinking about the part in episode 2 where Dr. Ford asks the boy if he can see the “white church,” but later we see a “black church.” This immediately reminded me of the white hat / black hat dichotomy, representing basically good and evil. What I am wondering is, supposing Dr. Ford is a host, is it possible that what he – as a robot – sees as “white,” (good) we – the humans/guests – see as “black” (evil)? On the one hand it could suggest moral relativity, where good and evil are in the eye of the beholder. Or, it could suggest that Dr. Ford is going down a path which is good for the hosts but evil for humans. I am not sure, but I feel that the contrast between what we see and what he seems to see is far too – well, black and white.

Also on the theory that Bernard is a host – last night I went back to watch Episode 1 again and I noticed that when Bernard and the guards are in the elevator, they suggest he might want to hang back because of the odor. Do the hosts have a sense of smell? My take on this was he either isn’t a host, or if he is, the guards are unaware.
