Why Are the Hosts Waking Up?

There’s an interesting poster on Reddit who speaks as if he works for the show and his theories are insider info. His username is Dr_Fingerstein and his posts are worth checking out. Check out this exchange I had with him

First comment: This just hit me. Did Arnold already achieve his goal of consciousness? But Ford tried removing it by taking away reveries and therefore improvisation, a key part of Arnold’s pyramid to consciousness? And with the return of reveries, hosts achieved improvisation and unlocked their consciousness.

Dr F: Arnold never set out to make anything conscious – he was trying to find a way of allowing human consciousness exist inside an artificial host mind. he has a child that was dying, the only thing he was interested in was making it possible for his child to survive death..

He succeeded in hosting his own consciousness – code derived from that success was found to spontaneously result in consciousness in Host bodies – The hosts were basically created conscious.

Ford stole Arnold business from him and turned his work into Westworld.

Me: So Ford’s entire speech about the Bicameral Mind and the pyramid to bootstrap consciousness was just a ruse?

Dr F: It’s complete BS. Arnold succeeded in creating consciousness in AI – even though it wasn’t his original goal.

Arnold’s original work was in finding a way to allow a human consciousness to exist inside an artificial host mind. He succeed in digitally cloning his own – code derived from that was found to spontaneously give rise to consciousness in the Host machines.

Me: And Ford’s work has been to Contain said consciousness and cover over it with narratives and memory wipes. It’s an interesting theory, certainly one of the more original offered in this sub. It’s a good thing the final episode is 90 minutes, since they’ll have to explain that everything technical the show has been holding the audiences hand explaining for nine episodes was all a lie and should be discarded.

Dr F: Yeah. If people who came to the park believed for a single instant that the horrible things they indulge in were actually being inflicted on beings that can feel and experience it – they’d be horrified.

Instead they told a BS story that makes them believe what they’re doing is okay and they believe it.

Ford treatment of both humans and hosts is identical – he makes no distinction, he’s a sociopath.

Actually getting to the real story underneath – doesn’t take much. Nobody’s going to need reams of notes and cross referencing everything – Ford just basically manipulates people. It’s what he’s always done.

The business was originally owned and run by Arnold – the maze symbol – it’s the original company logo. Ford swindled Arnold out of everything and – when he couldn’t get him to do what he wanted – simply used Arnold’s own discoveries to build a version that would.

The reason William is there is because – once the audience realize who he his they realize they can trust him to tell the truth. All the bits have been laid out it’s just we’ve only been shown them the way Ford wants us to see them.

Once you figure that out – the truth just snaps together like rubber band.

Me: So the park is at its core immoral and MiB with help from the inside is going to do what Arnold couldn’t do, burn it down, and rescue the hosts, with an emphasis on rescuing the two earliest hosts, Teddy and Dolores, who have the consciousness of actual people. Badass – Ben
