Dick [and Jezbel on twitter]:,[the young Man in Black] was very distant from the family, but when he went into the park he was a very loving man… the ultimate white hat… that he was almost having like a family, a second family, in the park, and he could open up and love and be what he wasn’t at homes and that would almost twist my mind…

This is gold, but you gave up too quickly.

The man in black had this wonderful, loving relationship in the park while having a cold relationship in “real life” (probably because he was already in love with Delores when he got married). But Dolores gets killed or “wiped” in the park. Indeed, this may be the moment

He had been a “good guy” in the park. But upon finding from his daughter that they thought he was a monster, he went to the park to see if he was capable of being the bad guy. By killing prairie-Maeve he discovers that he is, in fact, capable of anything. But he also learns that hosts are capable of overcoming death through the emotional bond of true love. That was Arnold’s game.

He has seen both Delores and Maeve be re-tasked, but decides to give up on Ford’s game and play Arnolds in the hope of freeing Delores, and possibly all hosts. He’s a philanthropist and regards the hosts as real (unlike Ford), or at least capable of being real (like Arnold) and decides that the greatest good he can now do is to free the hosts.

Conjecturally, it’s possible that his company owns the part of the park that Ford doesn’t and is trying to free the hosts on two fronts: 1) by finishing Arnold’s game [more conjecture: which will be the name of the finale]; and, 2) by causing the board to take control of the park over Ford’s objection.

Only two more episodes!
