You Lost Me Here

Shat hosts,

The cool thing about your show, and what always drew me in, was that it was from the perspective of a group of random personalities sitting around a bar or coffee shop talking about the most recent episode of whatever show happened to be on your current agenda. Fabulous concept.

The most recent shat-on Westworld telegraph deviated so much from that formula that it didn’t resemble your formula at all. 90% of it was emails from folks talking about philosophies of reality, society, etc. I’m going to break something down, and I hope you’re not offended: intellectual talk doesn’t always sell. If people can’t follow what you’re talking about, people won’t listen. In 60 minutes, you took your core audience and placed it in a corner while you dove into ultra-intense French philosopher bullshit. Your show is supposed to be fun. This show, however, was the opposite of fun…it deviated so far from it’s intended premise that, even though I’ll still listen, I’ll certainly be on alert that if it continues that I wouldn’t check every day to see if a new episode came out (as I did prior). That leads to a trend of not caring, which leads to eventually not listening. I’m sure I’m not the only one on that path, either. I recommended your show to some people on Facebook, and 2 of them messaged me before I even listened to this week’s show and said the same thing: why would I recommend a show about deep philosophy regarding Westworld? I argued your case, but after the show, I had to agree.

You’ve lost my attention, but you still have my ear. Please don’t take offense, love you guys.

Derek

We had a conversation about this separate from this email, but I’m so glad, as always, for honest feedback, and that you liked the next episode we did :). You’re awesome.
