To preface: I am a female from a higher academic background. It’s not that I don’t get the new direction the podcast has taken, it’s that I don’t have fun listening to it.

Seasons 1-2 are wonderful. Adding Ashley has made this podcast significantly worse. It was cool at first to have a live version of her insights, but the podcast has devolved into self indulgent philosophy hour. It does not help that Ashley (probably unintentionally) laughs smugly at almost every pause. This is also making Gene less entertaining and grossly smug for the first time, in my opinion.

The latest 4/6/20 episode has Gene and Ashley somehow surprised that this HBO television show wasn’t playing out all their dense philosophical discussion. Thank god for Big D, who unfortunately in the same episode was allowed to speak briefly then ignored/shut down in favor of more reacting to Westworld not being higher level philosophy deep. Roger is also there trying in some episodes, but it seems like he isn’t able to jump in much either because he isn’t talking French philosophy. I’m not in the YouTube echo chamber, but please know your listeners are not all into this new direction.

This show (Westworld) has never been a graduate level discussion. Some of this stuff is fun and cool to touch on, but this is an HBO show. Bring it back to show discussion guys, you’re going to lose listeners. Additional note: if show isn’t pronouncing Serac in a hard French accent, you don’t need to either.

I’m very nervous about Ashley jumping into the movie podcast, I really don’t want to drop the whole network because of one new self indulgent contributor.
