Arya – Maisie Williams Interview

Hey guys, thank you for hosting such a great podcast- I love it! It’s such a great way to hear different perspectives and expand thoughts on the show- awesome job.

So… I know people are really upset about the Arya and Gendry scene and I just wanted to point out an interview that Maisie Williams gave:

She says that the costume designers basically bound her breasts and added padding to her stomach for several seasons to keep her young/prepubescent-looking, though she herself was developing as a woman.

We see her as young because that’s who the show runners wanted her to be for so long. I also want to point out that if Ned and Caitlyn had lived, they most certainly would have married her against her wishes, probably very young, and she would have had plenty of sexual experiences that weren’t her choice. She wanted this. She asked for this. She is living her life on her terms and I think that should be applauded.

I think we’ve seen her grow up in so many ways: her maturity, her lessened desire to point out what a badass she is (when Jon asks her is she’s used Needle, she humbly says, “Once or twice,” instead of listing her accomplishments/kills like she might have done in younger years), her willingness to set aside her own desires for her family, etc. I wish we could allow her to be a grown woman and not rely on past seasons to keep her in a little sister role for our own comfort.

Let me know what you think! Thanks again for the podcast!

    I’m calling bull
I’ve not read a post or heard a podcast where anyone was shaming Arya, or saying that she was wrong, or even saying she is a child
What I have read/heard is a bunch of self-righteous social police misrepresenting fans’ natural sibling-like affinity for Arya
